Maundy Thursday

Today we celebrate Maundy Thursday, the anniversary of Jesus’ last supper. Maundy means “the day of the new commandment,” when Jesus instructed us to love one another, and told us to remember him through the breaking of bread and drinking of wine.

While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”

Matthew 26:26-29

The girls decided to remember him in a bit more comical way by reenacting The Last Supper painting by Leonardo da Vinci for an Annapolis Christian Academy challenge.

I’ve actually been blessed enough to see this painting (pre-restoration) in person at the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan when I backpacked through Italy with an art school friend, Meryl Blau. I miss those days!!! It was amazing to witness!

This is a video of the actual painting, pre- to post-restoration, that was done around 1999.
